The former All-Ivy League goalkeeper will join the Spurs after playing a graduate season at Santa Clara in 2019
NEW YORK — Former All-Ivy League goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse '19CC has signed to play professionally with Tottenham Hotspur, the Club announced Friday.
"I'm super excited to join Spurs," said Whitehouse. "I've always targeted playing professionally in England, so to have this opportunity is amazing. I was born in Enfield so I've always been a fan of the Club from afar. This is probably going to be one of the best years for the WSL so far because of all the talented recruits that teams including Spurs have made, so it's an exciting time for me to come into the set-up here and I'm really excited to get started."
A two-year starter for the Lions, Whitehouse was a mainstay in goal throughout the 2017 and 2018 campaigns on Morningside Heights, including a Second Team All-Ivy selection in 2017 after allowing only one goal throughout conference play for a .964 save percentage.
"We are thrilled for Sophie and her family," said Columbia head coach Tracey Bartholomew. "Her passion and love of the game, combined with her work ethic and commitment to accomplish her dream of playing professionally are inspiring. We are so proud of her and wish for her continued success."
Following her four years with Columbia, Whitehouse most recently spent the 2019 season as a graduate transfer at Santa Clara, seeing action in 13 games while helping record seven shutouts, including starts in all three of the Broncos' NCAA Tournament matchups.
