Lions defeat Brown in NYC for first time since 2017
NEW YORK – Columbia women's soccer extended its unbeaten streak to six straight matches in dramatic fashion on Saturday night, stunning Brown 2-1 at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. The victory not only gave the Lions (4-4-2, 2-0-0 Ivy) their first home win over the Bears since 2017, but also continued a remarkable stretch of late-match heroics.
For the fourth consecutive game, Columbia found the decisive goal in the 76th minute or later. Three out of four of those goals came in the 85th minute or later. This time it was Gabby Chan delivering the clutch strike in the 85th minute, slotting home inside the box off a feed from Maia Beltran and Sammie Moncion to send the Lions past the Bears (7-2-2, 1-1-0 Ivy) and keep their Ivy League record perfect.

Columbia struck first late in the opening half. In the 40th minute, first-year Maia Tabion buried a shot from the left side, set up by Evelyn Javers and Charlyse Berry, to give the Lions a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Brown leveled the match in the 57th minute on a goal from Kyra Treanor, but Columbia's back line and goalkeeper Samantha Mahoney held firm from that point forward. Mahoney finished the night with three second-half saves to preserve the result.
The Lions' attack generated five shots in total, including two on goal, while Brown managed nine attempts and four on target. Columbia also earned four corners to the Bears' three. Defensively, Dema Elder and the back line absorbed pressure throughout the second half to limit Brown's opportunities after the equalizer.
Saturday's result also marked redemption for Columbia after the Bears ended the Lions' Ivy League Tournament run in last year's semifinals.
The Lions will travel to Princeton on Saturday, October 4, for their third Ivy League match of the season. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
