Lions Send Women To Nuttycombe; Take Part In Princeton XC Invite

Columbia Cross Country will send the Lion women to the Nuttycombe Invite (Oct. 15) and the remaining women, along with the men will head to Princeton (Oct. 16).
MADISON, Wis./PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia Cross Country is set for a busy weekend of action as the Lion women will head to the Nuttycombe Invitational (Oct. 15), while the men, along with another collection of Lion women, will head to the Princeton Cross Country Invitational (Oct. 16) in what will be the final tune up before the Ivy League Cross Country Heps.
At the Nuttycombe, the women's 6K will get started at 1:20 p.m. EST, while in Princeton the Lion men get it started with a 8K at 9:45 a.m. and the women finish it off with a 6.1K at 10:30 a.m.

STACKED NUTTYCOMBE: The Columbia women will take part in the Nuttycombe Invitational (6K), a race that is chalk full of tough competition and the visit to Madison, Wisconsin will be the 20th straight season that the Lions have sent at least the women to the race.
The field is a stacked one with 19 of the 38 schools competing sitting inside the top 30, including the top-three teams in the nation. No. 1 NC State, No. 2 BYU and No. 3 New Mexico are joined by No. 6 Minnesota, No. 7 Washington and No. 9 Stanford, giving the meet six programs inside the top 10.
Columbia will be joined by Harvard as the only two Ivy League programs represented in the women's race.
HEPS TUNE UP: On the same course that the Ivy League Cross Country Heps will be run, both the Columbia men and remaining Columbia women will take face off with a field that is full of regional competition. On the women's side (6.1K), carrying a Northeast Regional ranking of No. 4 themselves, the Lions will see fellow regionally ranked squads No. 9 Dartmouth, No. 13 Iona and No. 14 Boston.
On the men's side (8K), they will see four regionally ranked programs which include, No. 1 Iona, No. 4 Stony Brook, No. 12 Binghamton, No. 15 Boston. The Columbia men bring a No. 11 Northeast Regional ranking into the weekend.
RUNNING THE METS: For the first time in over 600 days Columbia took to the historic course at Van Cortlandt Park, placing three in the Top 10 at the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships on Oct. 8. Overall, the men and the women both finished fourth in the race that took part under a perfect day in the Bronx, New York.
On the men's side (8K), Stephen Connelly and Jacob Ireland finished seventh and eighth respectively, while Delaney Sanacore posted a sixth-place finish in the women's race (5K). Connelly finished with a time of 27:19.6 and Ireland was right behind him clocking a time of 27:19.9, while Sanacore crossed the line in 19:47.6.
