LAST TIME OUT: Columbia last competed, on Jan. 15, at the TCNJ Lions Indoor Invite, in their first visit to The Armory since 2020. In that meet, Tiffany Bautista (triple jump), Anna Jordahl-Henry (high jump) and the squad of Fredericka Walker, Sydney Goldson, Kali Long and Amara Onyeukwu (4x400m relay) all finished first to give the Lions solid finishes in several events.
Bautista launched 36-2.25/11.03m for her first-place finish in the triple jump, while Jordahl-Henry cleared 5-5.25/1.66m in the high jump. Columbia's 4x400m relay squad held off TCNJ to take first by less than a second with a time of 3:56.54.
One other solid mark for the Lions came in the men's shot put, where Patrick Passalacqua nearly broke a 68-year old program record, posting a second-place toss of 53-9.75/16.40m. The mark places Passalacqua second all-time in program history, just behind All Thompson's '54CC '60DM 1954 mark of 16.64m and it's the best toss by a Lion since Jeff Oke hit 15.48m in 2007.
BACK TO YALE: Columbia's trip to Yale will be the second visit of the season for the Lions, having competed in the Yale Season Opener on Dec. 11, 2021. The best finish in that meet came from McKinlee Morris, who tossed a first-place mark of 45-0.50/13.73m in the shot put to take first place.
Lailah Malone posted personal best mark of 45-3.75/13.81m to finish fifth in the weight throw, while on the men's side both Keegan Li and Passalacqua posted top five finishes.
Li, in only his second collegiate competition, bested his mark from last weekend setting a mark of 49-10.00/15.19m in the weight throw. Passalacqua, fresh off the gridiron, in his first collegiate action posted a mark of 50-2.50/15.30m in the shot put to finish fifth, wrapping up Columbia's five top-five finishes on the day.
REWRITING THE BOOK: At the Bill Ward Invitational on Dec. 5, 2021, Morris broke a 27-year old program record in the shot put with a toss of 46-2.75/14.09m on her first career collegiate throw. She broke the previous mark that was held by Rachelle Noble, who in 1994, posted a mark of 13.46m
