Columbia To Compete At The Great Dane Classic

Columbia Track & Field will also send a collection of runners to the 114th Millrose Games at The Armory on Saturday, Jan. 29.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y./NEW YORK — Columbia Track & Field makes one final trip away from The Armory when they head down to the Ocean Breeze Sports Complex on Friday, Jan. 28 to take part in the UAlbany Great Dane Classic, while a handful of Lions will make a trip to The Armory on Saturday, Jan. 29 to take part in the 114th Millrose Games in a busy weekend for Columbia.
The Great Dane Classic gets started with the women's 60-meter hurdles and the women's weight throw at 12 p.m. on Friday. While on Saturday, Columbia's first time on the track will be at approximately 1:12 p.m. in the women's 4x400-meter relay.

LAST TIME OUT: Columbia last competed on Jan. 22 at the Dartmouth-Yale-Columbia tri-meet where they had 13 combined first-place finishes by both the men and women. The women locked up five first-place finishes, while the men collected eight top finishes for the Lions in the Ivy League only meet.
For the men, Matt Wabunoha clocked a first-place time of 8.59 in the 60-meter hurdles, Jahi Hernandez tied for first with a time of 49.73 in the 400-meter dash and the "A" squad of Ryan Borden, Nixon McKenzie, Solomon Fountain and Michael Danzi finished first in the 4x800-meter relay. While in the field, Kam Lambert jumped 42-07.00/12.98m in the triple jump and Luke Ciarelli cleared 6-00.75/1.85m in the high jump to give Columbia a pair of men taking first in the field.
In the one-mile run, Nikki Vanasse clocked a first-place time of 4:53.22 and Sydney Goldson crossed the line in 55.97 in the 400m giving the Lions a pair of women top finishers on the track. Anna Jordahl-Henry cleared 5-06.00/1.68m in the high jump and Kali Hatcher launched a mark of 40-10.25/12.45m in the triple jump to give Columbia two winners in the field events.
BACK TO OCEAN BREEZE: The last time the Lions visited the Ocean Breeze Complex (Bill Ward Invite, Dec. 5, 2021) was also the first time the Lions had competed in 636 days and it was a record-breaking meet. Sophomore McKinlee Morris broke a 27-year-old record with her first throw in the shot put, posting a mark of 49-02.75/14.09m to finish second in that event.
16 other Lions finished first for Columbia, with Olivia Schmitt (1,000m), Jordahl-Henry (HJ), Hatcher (TJ) and both the 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams taking first for the women. While on the men's side Danzi (3,000m) Will O'Brien (PV) and 4x800m relay squad all took first place in a successful return to competition for the Lions.
REWRITING THE BOOK: At the Bill Ward Invitational on Dec. 5, 2021, Morris broke a 27-year old program record in the shot put with a toss of 46-2.75/14.09m on her first career collegiate throw. She broke the previous mark that was held by Rachelle Noble, who in 1994, posted a mark of 13.46m
