Saj McBurrows sets another career-high in kills
NEW YORK – Saj McBurrows set another career-high in kills, this time going for 16 against the Dartmouth Big Green on Friday evening. The Lions fell to the visitors by a score of 3-1.
Eva Atkins also had a career-high in kills, tallying 11. McBurrows' night came on a .500 attacking percentage, while Atkins hit .292. Ruby van der Heide and Candence Gronski split the setter duties tonight, combining for 39 assists. Vanessa Pan led the team in digs and service aces.
Holding a slim 4-3 lead in the first set, Dartmouth used a 7-1 to create space. From there, the lead continued to grow and the Big Green were up 10 with set-point on the horizon. Dartmouth won 25-16.
The second set was closer. Columbia trailed 14-13 before being outscored 11-5 over the next 16 rallies.
The Lions upped the pressure in the third set. McBurrows was a force in this set, accumulating seven of her 16 kills. With the score tied at eight, Columbia went on a 10-2 run. The Lions did not surrender the lead for the rest of the set, taking it 25-20.
Columbia did not go down without a fight despite facing a 15-8 deficit in the fourth set. The Lions chipped away, eventually narrowing the gap to one point. Leading 23-22, Dartmouth scored the final two points of the night, winning the set and the match.
Up next, the Lions host Harvard tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
