Lions Set For Final Tests Ahead Of Heps

Columbia Track & Field heads to the Rutgers Indoor Invite (Feb. 11-12) and the BU David Valentine Invite (Feb. 12) in a busy weekend.
NEW YORK/BOSTON — Columbia Track & Field will spend the weekend tuning up ahead of the Ivy League Indoor Track & Field Heps, as Columbia will send a handful of student athletes to the BU David Hemery Valentine Invite (Feb. 12) hosted by Boston, and the Rutgers Indoor Invitational (Feb. 11-12) held at The Armory, before turning their attention to Heps.
Friday's action at the Rutgers Indoor Invitational gets started in the field with the long jump starting at 11 a.m. and on the track the women's distance medley relay gets things going at 11:30 a.m. While on Saturday, the action gets started at 11:30 a.m. with the women's 60-meter dash and in the field things get going with the women's pole vault at 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Lions last took part in the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge hosted at The Armory from Feb. 4-5, where they collected six top-five finishers and won three events on the men's side. Highlighting the weekend was David Vorbach, as his time of 13:55.02 set a program record in the 5,000-meter run.
Michael Danzi clocked a winning time of 4:04.84 in the one-mile run and the distance medley relay team of Solomon Fountain, Devon Davey, Justin O'Toole and Danzi pieced together a time of 9:42.74 to win, clocking the ninth best time in program history.
Davey clocked a fourth-place time of 48:14 in the 400-meter dash and Patrick Passalacqua set a mark of 54-04.75/16.58m in the shot put, placing fifth and for the second time this season setting the second-best mark in program history passing his own previous mark of 53-09.75/16.40m set on Jan. 15.
The women had a collection of top finishes, led by Nikki Vanasse took second in a close women's 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:19.97, while in the field Anna Jordahl-Henry (5-07.00/1.70m) and Kali Hatcher (39-08.75/12.11m) each finished fourth in the high jump and triple jump respectively.
REWRITING THE BOOK: At the Bill Ward Invitational on Dec. 5, 2021, Morris broke a 27-year old program record in the shot put with a toss of 46-2.75/14.09m on her first career collegiate throw. She broke the previous mark that was held by Rachelle Noble, who in 1994, posted a mark of 13.46m.
During the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge (Feb. 4), Vorbach finished first with a time of 13:55.02 in the 5,000m. The time set a new program record, passing Steve Sundell's time of 13:59.57 set in 2004 and it's only the second time in program history that a Lion has run a sub-14 minute 5,000m.
