Men’s Basketball Falls At Cornell As Four Lions Score Double-Figures

Lions closed out the 2022-23 season on Saturday
ITHACA, N.Y. – Columbia men's basketball dropped an 87-73 decision to Cornell in the season finale on Saturday from Newman Arena at Bartels Hall.
Avery Brown led the Lions with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and added four assists. Liam Murphy, Kenny Noland, and Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa all chipped in double-figures as well. Zavian McLean was 4-4 from the field and finished with nine points.
Columbia (7-22, 2-12) shot 48.1 percent from the field while Cornell (17-10, 7-7) shot 54.2 percent. The Lions were 8-8 from the free throw line on Saturday. Josh Odunowo was 4-4 from the line and added six points for Columbia.
After being down 22 points with 4:52 remaining in the first half, Columbia stormed back and went on a 16-0 run to bring the score to 40-34 with 43 seconds until the break. The Big Red would take a 45-39 lead into the locker room after Noland knocked down a shot in the paint as time was expiring. Ten of Noland's 12 points came in the opening half.
The Big Red led for all but the opening minute of the game and Cornell produced its biggest run of the afternoon less than three minutes into the final half. After a McLean layup brought the Big Red lead to four, Cornell went on an 11-0 run to take a 56-41 advantage with 17:17 to go.
Cornell opened up a 23-point lead with 7:30 left in the second half, which was the biggest margin of the game. Columbia brought the Cornell lead down to 14 points when Brown hit a three-pointer with 2:01 to play, making it an 85-71 game.
