Dani Falcone recognized as an honorable mention
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League announced the women's lacrosse All-Ivy teams and major awards on Tuesday afternoon. Julie Griswold was named Second Team All-Ivy, while Dani Falcone was recognized as an honorable mention. In addition, Sophie Zachara was selected to the Academic All-Ivy Team.
Griswold was an anchor on defense all season for the Lions, playing a huge role on the much improved unit. Often times tasked with trying to limit the opposing times best player, the defender from Alexandria, Virginia led the Lions with 13 caused turnovers. She also collected 13 ground balls.
"We are excited for Julie to get this recognition!" Head Coach Anne Murray said. "One of the players who anchors our defensive unit, she consistently matches up against top players from opposing Ivy teams and holds them to low points production. She is vocal, aggressive, and disciplined. Her growth this year continues to push our team forward and we are looking forward to her being an upperclassman next year, leading, and taking more risks with her play."
Meanwhile, Falcone, who was recognized as an honorable mention, was one of the stars on the Lions' attack all season. She was second on the team in both goals (22) and points (29), and was unstoppable on the free position. She totaled a whopping 23 free position shots, and converted on those 11 times. In addition to her dominance on offense, she also led the Lions with 34 draw controls while collecting 15 ground balls.
"Dani is a player full of spark," Murray said. "She made an impact all over the field for us and pushed through this season receiving lots of attention from opposing defenses. She plays fast, she shoots quick, and she handles the ball well in difficult moments. We are looking forward to seeing more from Dani as she continues to grow."
In addition, Zachara was recognized for her excellence in the classroom by being named to the Academic All-Ivy Team. The Summit, New Jersey product has the highest GPA on the team among juniors and seniors, and has been an integral part of the Lions this season on the field. The midfielder was tied for fourth on the team with 11 goals this year, sixth on the team with 14 points, and fifth on the team with 18 draw controls. She also accumulated 15 ground balls and a caused turnover.
