Lions register seven shots on goal in loss
NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey was shutout by Penn, 2-0, on Friday at Columbia Field Hockey Complex.
Columbia goalkeeper Katie Wimmer made eight saves in the loss, including six in the third quarter. The Lions (3-6, 0-3) had just two corners in the match compared to Penn's nine.
Penn (4-5, 2-0) scored the match's first goal with 2:09 left in the third quarter. Allison Kuzyk found the back of the net on a penalty corner. Courtney Kenah was credited with the assist.
The Quakers doubled their lead when Livia Loozen scored with just over two minutes left in the contest to make it 2-0 Penn.
Despite a scoreless first half, Columbia managed to get six shots on goal in the first 30 minutes of play. In the second quarter off Columbia's lone first half penalty corner, Maya Walker rattled off two shots on goal in a span of 15 seconds. Penn goalkeeper Frederique Wollaert kicked both shots out. Wollaert finished with seven saves.
Columbia had three cards in the first half and successfully killed off all of them, including a five-minute yellow card on Lindsey Yu.
Along with Walker's three shots on goal, Jeannine Turgeon, Anabelle Brodeur, and Mckenzie Bloom all logged shots on frame.
