Lacrosse Announces Captains for 2024 Season

Yun, Eisner, and Zachara will lead the Lions this year

NEW YORK — Columbia lacrosse head coach Anne Murray officially named three captains that will lead the Lions through the rest of 2023 and through the upcoming 2024 season.  Lauren Yun returns in a second stint as captain for Columbia, and she will be joined by first-time captains Sophie Zachara and Ellie Eisner, effective immediately.

"Lauren, Sophie, and Ellie bring a great balance to the role of captain," Murray said. "Their leadership styles are true compliments of each other. They are passionate, dedicated, and hungry for the season ahead. These three will serve as selfless examples for their teammates to follow on and off the field! Meanwhile, their stewardship and their play will push this program forward!"

After captaining the Lions in her junior season, Yun will be back in the same role again for her senior campaign. The midfielder did not see any game action in 2023, but was a pivotal voice and leader for the Lions on and off the field. She was named captain heading into her junior year after a sophomore season in which she was named All-Ivy Honorable mention after making 14 starts and collecting a career-high 20 ground balls, 12 draw controls, eight caused turnovers, and two assists.

Zachara, fresh off being selected to the Academic All-Ivy Team in 2023, will enter her first season as captain for the Lions in her senior season. The New Jersey product had a career-year on offense last season, scoring a career-high 11 goals and dishing out three assists. Her leadership and knowledge of the game is idolized by her teammates, and makes her the perfect candidate to be a leader for 2024.

Eisner is one of the most important players on the team, anchoring the Lions defense throughout her career and will continue to do so again heading into 2024 and her senior season. Her leadership on the field speaks for itself, and it comes as no surprise she was chosen as one of Columbia's captains. Often tasked with shadowing one of the biggest offensive threats on the opposing team, the defender out of Baltimore, Maryland started all 15 games last season, grabbing 17 ground balls and forcing a career-high 11 turnovers.

The Lions will be releasing their fall schedule in the coming weeks. the full 2024 schedule will be revealed later this year.
