Field Hockey Falls to Bucknell on Sunday, 2-1

Lions open Ivy play Friday at Cornell
NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey dropped a tight 2-1 decision to Bucknell on Sunday at the Columbia Field Hockey Complex. All three goals of the match came in the third period.
After a scoreless first half for the second straight game, Bucknell (2-4) opened the scoring with 6:23 left in the third. The Bison tacked on another shortly after on a tap-in to make it 2-0.
Columbia (1-2) battled back and cut the lead in half with 2:40 left in the third. Sophia Abate netted her first goal of the year by putting home a rebound. The Lions ran out of time in the final frame as they registered just two shots.
Lions goalkeeper Katie Wimmer had another big performance in the cage. The senior captain tallied 10 saves on the afternoon, including three in each the first, third, and fourth periods.
Columbia was unable to benefit from three penalty corners in the first quarter. Each team finished with six a piece on the day. The Lions were outshot by the Bison 15-8 (12-5) on goal.
Columbia is back in action next Friday to open Ivy League play at Cornell. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start in Ithaca, N.Y.
