Lions open Ivy slate at Big Red
NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey heads to Cornell on Friday at 4 p.m. for its Ivy League opener before welcoming Monmouth on Sunday at 1 p.m. from Columbia Field Hockey Complex.

Last Time Out
Columbia's comeback attempt fell short last Sunday to Bucknell at home. A 2-1 loss featured all three goals of the match coming in the third period. Down 2-0, Sophia Abate netted her first goal of the year by putting home a rebound to cut the Bison's lead in half. The Lions ran out of time in the final frame as they registered just two shots.
The Lions earned their first victory of the year and of the Niki Miller era with a thrilling 1-0 win in double overtime last Friday night against LIU. Columbia has now won four straight home openers. After nearly 77 minutes of scoreless play, Lindsey Yu cashed in off a penalty corner that was sent in from Delfina Gonzalez Lobo. It was Yu's first goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Katie Wimmer totaled 14 saves in last weekend's matches, including 10 in Sunday's defeat to Bucknell. Her goals against average is 1.83 this season.
About Cornell
The Big Red (0-4) dropped a pair of matches last weekend to two Top 10 teams, Northwestern and Louisville, each by a goal. Cornell has been outscored 14-6 this year. Columbia is 6-20 all-time against the Big Red and has dropped the last three matches in the series.
About Monmouth
The Hawks (4-1) enter the weekend coming off a 5-0 win vs. Rider last Sunday. Columbia is 9-5 all-time against Monmouth and took last year's meeting in New Jersey, 2-1.

The Lions host Princeton next Friday at 6 p.m. for Pride Night. Following the contest with the Tigers, Columbia heads to Wagner on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
