NEW YORK - Columbia's head lacrosse coach Kerri Whitaker was one of nine people inducted into Brown's Athletics Hall of Fame, in an event that took place Saturday, April 26 at the Westin Hotel in Providence, R.I.
Whitaker, who just finished her seventh season at the helm of the lacrosse team, graduated from Brown in 1996. She was a rare two-sport standout during her four years, excelling in both field hockey and lacrosse.
She was named the field hockey team's Outstanding Offensive Player in 1994 and 1995, in addition to being named the team's MVP as a senior. That same season, Whitaker received first team All-Ivy League recognition.
She was also recognized for her accomplishments on the lacrosse field for the Bears. Whitaker's career totals rank in the top-10 all-time at Brown in points, goals, assists, ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls. As a senior, she was a first team All-Ivy League selection and named honorable mention All-American. After graduating in 1996, she was a four-year member of the U.S. National Elite Team from 1996-2000.
Whitaker remains involved with U.S. Lacrosse, currently serving as one of the coaches for the U.S. Developmental Team. In her seven seasons at Columbia, she holds a 44-13 non-conference record and has coached players to the top of nearly every program record. She is coming off Columbia's most successful season, posting a program best nine wins for a 9-7 overall record.
