
Dartmouth Uses Second-Quarter Surge to Down Lacrosse

Becker records four goals, five points in Ivy League matchup
HANOVER, N.H. – The Columbia lacrosse team dropped an Ivy League contest to Dartmouth, 19-9, on Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 6-8 overall and 0-6 in Ivy League play, while the Big Green improve to 8-6 (2-4 Ivy).
Columbia came out strong, scoring the first two goals of the game behind tallies from Emma Row and Anna Becker to take an early 2-0 lead. After Dartmouth responded with two goals to even the score, Row struck again late in the quarter to give the Lions a 3-2 advantage heading into the second.
The Lions extended their lead early in the second quarter when Michelle Zhai found the back of the net off an assist from Cecelia Messner to make it 4-2. However, Dartmouth answered with a decisive run, scoring seven of the final eight goals of the half to take a 10-5 lead into the break.
Dartmouth continued to build momentum in the third quarter, outscoring Columbia 6-3 to extend its lead to 16-8 heading into the final period.
Columbia added one goal in the fourth quarter, but the Big Green maintained control throughout the final frame to secure the 19-9 victory.
Becker led the Lions offensively with four goals and one assist for a five-point performance. Row added two goals, while Messner recorded a goal and two assists. Zhai and Cordelia Flemming each added a goal in the loss.
In goal, Ava Kimche made nine saves in 54 minutes of action, while Katherine Ebeling recorded two saves in relief.
Dartmouth held advantages in shots (37-23) and draw controls (16-14), while Columbia finished 13-of-16 on clear attempts.
Columbia returns home Saturday to take on Harvard in its regular season finale. First draw is at 1 p.m. at Commisso Stadium.
