Former Columbia women's soccer forward will continue her career in professional soccer with Aland United in Finland
NEW YORK — Former Columbia forward Phoenetia Browne '15SEAS will continue her professional soccer career overseas as she has signed with Aland United in Finland, the organization announced recently.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to join Aland United for the 2019 season," said Browne. "I am looking forward to learning from my new coaching staff and teammates and to continue to grow as a player."
A native of Piscataway, New Jersey, Browne played four seasons with the Lions before using a fifth year to compete at the University of Texas as a graduate transfer.
"I believe that early exposure as a student-athlete at Columbia University and the University of Texas at Austin served as a springboard for fulfilling my desire to play a higher level of soccer, as they helped me become more resilient, both physically and mentally, in my pursuit of becoming a professional soccer player," added Browne.
Browne played in 29 games with eight starts for the Lions. Her breakout season came in her junior campaign for the Lions in 2013, registering nine points on four goals and an assist including a game-winner against Yale.
This will mark Browne's third foreign trip after playing for Sindri in Iceland in 2017 and for FCU Olimpia Cluj in Romania a season ago.
