
Columbia Treks to Wake Forest Sunday

The Lions and Demon Deacons will meet for just the second time in Winston Salem on Sunday afternoon.
OPENING TIP-OFF
• Columbia and Wake Forest will meet for just the second time and the first since 1969.
• The Lions dropped a tough 65-63 decision at Lafayette Tuesday night. The Leopards converted on a put-back with 30 seconds left and Columbia's last-second shot was off the mark.
• Mike Smith returned to action and scored a game-high 22 points after missing the final 16 games of 2018-19 due to injury. He is just nine points shy of becoming the 29th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points and five assists away from joining Columbia's top-10 list.

WAKE FOREST'S STATUS
The Deacons fell to Boston College Wednesday, 77-70. Wake Forest trailed 15 at the break and closed within seven points with just over two minutes to go, however, the Eagles converted from the foul line down the stretch to take the win. Brandon Childress led the way with 24 points, with 23 coming in the second half. Isaaiah Mucius added 18 points in the defeat. The Deacons posted an 11-20 record last season and were 4-14 in the ACC.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Lions topped the Deacons, 101-78, on December 27, 1969 in Philadelphia in the only previous meeting between the schools. That win was also Columbia's last against an ACC opponent.
COLUMBIA VS. THE ACC
The Lions are 10-30 against teams currently in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Columbia will also face defending NCAA Champions, Virginia, November 16. The Lions' most common foe in the ACC is Syracuse, who they are 3-10 against.
THE COMEBACK
Senior guard Mike Smith returned to the lineup on Tuesday after missing the final 16 games of last season due to a torn meniscus. The Burr Ridge, Illinois, native registered a game-high 22 points in 39 minutes of action. Smith earned second team All-Ivy League and third team All-Met honors in 2017-18 and set Columbia's first-year scoring record with 368 points in 2016-17.
