PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia Volleyball (5-18, 2-11 IVY) fell in straight sets at Princeton (15-6, 9-4 IVY) in a Friday night Ivy League matchup at Dillon Gymnasium.
Columbia was led by six kills from Emily Teehan and five from Isa Lamus. Shari Stenglein added 14 assists, while both Vanessa Pan and Stenglein each recorded a service ace during the action.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Princeton controlled the action in the first set and without giving up the lead, which they got with the first three points of the set, the Tigers won the set, 25-12, to take a quick 1-0 lead in the match. During the third and final set the Tigers again were in the lead for most of the set, with only one tie and lead change happening over the opening points decided, and they finished off the match with a 25-14 third set win.
It was in the second set that the Lions dug in and nearly made the match a fight, the score would be tied seven times and the lead changed hands four times during a competitive opening to the second set. Throughout the opening 30 points both teams traded blows, with Pan recording her ace at the 3-3 points of the set. But, unfortunately for the Lions, the closest they would get after the final tie of 12-12, would be 14-13.
At the 14-13 point the Lions would only manage to get one more point, and following their final point, at 16-14, Princeton scored the final nine straight points to take the second set, 25-14, and with their third set win, took the match in straight sets. 3-0.
