Harvard Sneaks Past Columbia on Senior Day
11/6/2021 6:38:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NEW YORK -- Despite striking first, the Columbia women's soccer team fell just short in its season finale, dropping a 2-1 contest to Harvard at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium. Prior to kickoff, the Lions recognized the contributions of seniors Kayla Lee, Collette Marciano, Jessica Schildkraut, and Mallaika Tomar to the program both on and off the field.
Lee left an extra memorable mark when, in the 28th minute, she dished out her first assist of the season to sophomore Nata Ramirez whose strike into the top right corner marked her league-leading 10th goal of the season.
Columbia's roaring fan section was quickly quieted, however, as Harvard recorded its first goal of the match a mere 38 seconds later.
Harvard's Hollyn Torres notched the game-winning goal with just 40 seconds left to play in the first half. Neither net was found in the final 45 minutes, sealing the score at 2-1, Harvard.
Sophomore Paige Nurkin concluded an impressive first collegiate season with seven stops, bringing her season total to 74. With Ivy League women's soccer play concluded, Nurkin stands atop the league leader board with a 0.851 save percentage.
