Lions Split The Squad; Head To Virginia Challenge And Mark Young Invite

Columbia Track & Field will head to Charlottesville, Va., and New Haven, Conn. in another busy weekend.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va./NEW HAVEN, Conn. — With just under a month before Columbia Track & Field takes on the Ivy League Heps, the Lions again will split the squad, sending the long-distance men and women to the Virginia Challenge, hosted by Virginia, set to run from Friday, Apr. 22-Saturday, Apr. 23, and the sprints, throws and jumping Lions to the Mark Young Invitational, hosted by Yale, scheduled for April 23 in another busy weekend for the Lions.
At the Virginia Challenge, the men and women's 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m will be run on Friday and the men's 800m will run on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT: In a busy weekend that had Columbia splitting up to three different competitions, the Lions collected five top-five finishes combined at the Larry Ellis Invitational (Princeton), War Eagle Invite (Auburn) and the UConn Northeast Challenge (UConn) in the three meets that took place over the weekend of April 15-16.
At the competitive War Eagle Invite, the women's 4x400m relay squad of Alexis Knight, Sydney Goldson, Kimmi Woods and Amara Onyeukwu posted Columbia's top finish in Auburn, Alabama with a second-place finishing time of 3:45.27. While in the field, Kali Hatcher cleared 12.40m to take fifth in the triple jump.
In Princeton, New Jersey at the Larry Ellis Invite the Lions got their most top-five finishes, and for the men it started with Michael Danzi's second-place finishing time of 3:44.43 in the 1,500m. Talha Syed clocked a second-place time of 30:51.81 in the 10,000m and for the women, in the unseeded 5,000m, Lauren Grela finished second with a time of 17:26.09.
Yoosang Kim gave the Lions their best finish at the UConn Northeast Challenge tossing a sixth-place mark of 16.20m in the shot put.
