NEW YORK – Shira Cohen's late first half strike catapulted Columbia women's soccer past visiting Cornell 1-0 in the Lions' Ivy League opener. The junior forward's second goal of 2022 came off a pass from rookie standout
Maia Tabion in the 40
th minute.
With the victory Columbia moves to 5-2-1 overall with a perfect 1-0 conference start. Cornell falls to 1-5-3 and 0-1 in league play.
On the night, Columbia edged Cornell in shots on goal (4-3) while the Big Red held a 8-7 advantage in total shots.
Junior
Paige Nurkin played a complete game in goal, turning away three shots.
Next up, Columbia will travel to Providence for a 3:00 P.M. matchup at Brown on Saturday, Oct. 1.
