Columbia improves to 3-0-0 in Ivy League play

NEW YORK – The Columbia women's soccer scoring attack continued to impress Wednesday afternoon as the Lions cruised to a 4-1 win over Cornell inside Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.

Columbia (5-3-3, 3-0-0 Ivy) has now won its first three conference games for the first time since the 2017 season. With the win over Cornell (2-6-4, 1-2-0 Ivy) today, Columbia has now won seven of the last ten meetings against the Big Red. In addition, Columbia's four goals is the most the Lions have ever scored in a win over Cornell.

The Lions struck first in Wednesday's game when Nata Ramirez scored her sixth goal of the season. Charlyse Berry earned the assist on a great pass from the right side to Ramirez, who scored from the right side of the goal in the 19^th minute. With 20 career goals, Ramirez sits just one goal away from cracking the top 10 career goals list at Columbia.

Minutes later, Columbia quickly doubled its lead as Ramirez and Berry switched roles to score. Ramirez launched a cross toward the goal and found Berry for a header shot that found its way past the Cornell goalkeeper in the 23^rd minute.

Cornell scored its lone goal of the day in the 24^th minute. Ava Laden earned her second goal of the season to briefly cut into the Columbia lead.

Courtney Ruedt scored the third Columbia goal of the first half in the 43^rd lead to help the Lions head into halftime with a comfortable lead. Ania Prussak was credited with the assist on a corner kick that was launched into a group of Columbia and Cornell players. Ruedt wound up with the ball and finished off a great play to secure her first goal of the season.

The Lions tacked on one goal in the second half to finish off a 4-1 victory. Sam Cohn registered her second goal of the season when she took a pass from Ramirez and fired the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net in the 58^th minute. Ramirez earned her second assist of the game to cap off an incredible performance.

Columbia controlled the tempo for the most of the game, which helped the Lions outshoot the Big Red, 17-11. Ramirez led the Lions with four shots. Maia Tabion and Berry each tallied three shots. Berry put two on goal, included her one goal scored.

Lauren Rodriguez earned the start in the net for Columbia, playing 74 total minutes. Rodriguez earned one save and allowed one goal. Samantha Mahoney came in during the second half and played the final 16 minutes. Mahoney recorded two saves while earning some valuable playing time.

UP NEXT
The Lions are back home Sunday to host Dartmouth for another Ivy League matchup. First kick from Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium is set for 1 p.m. Sunday's game will also be the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
