Noland and Bedri power the Lions in another wire-to-wire victory
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Kenny Noland poured in a career-high 27 points on 11-18 shooting as Columbia men's basketball breezed past Lehigh, 82-67, on Friday night at Stabler Arena.
Zine Eddine Bedri added 21 points and also pulled down 12 rebounds to capture his second career double-double. Blair Thompson contributed 11 points and 10 boards for his fourth career double-double. It's the first time Columbia has had two players record a double-double in a game since Dec. 3, 2008, vs. Wagner.
The Lions (4-1) dominated the glass, 48-23. It's the second time this season they were over plus-20 on the boards.
Columbia held a 41-29 lead at the half thanks to double-digit scoring from Noland and Bedri over the first 20 minutes. The Lions shot 51.5 percent (17-33) from the floor in the opening half. The Mountain Hawks (2-4) were just 1-10 from beyond the arc in the first half.
After mostly a back-and-forth half, Columbia broke off a 6-0 run over the last two minutes to boost the lead to 12. Connor Igoe dropped back-to-back buckets and Bedri laid in a basket with 1:12 left to cap the run.
It was smooth sailing for most of the second half, as Columbia led by as much as 21 with 3:23 to go. Noland and Bedri would finish a combined 20-29 from the field. Noland drained five three-pointers on the night.
