11/23/2025 5:17:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Lions set a single-game record with 18 three-pointers
NEW YORK — Blair Thompson buried a career-high 25 points and Columbia men's basketball drilled a single-game program-best 18 three-pointers as the Lions defeated Longwood, 95-70, on Sunday afternoon from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium.
Thompson and Kenny Noland led the way to combine for 13 three-pointers as the Lions (5-1) shot 50 percent from three-point range. Columbia cleaned up on the glass again, out-rebounding the Lancers, 39-28. The Lions led for over 38 minutes. Four of Columbia's five wins this season have been by double-digits.
Noland recorded his third 20-point game of the season, finishing with 24 on 8-14 shooting (6-11 from deep). The Apex, N.C. native also dished out a game-high seven assists.
Gerard O'Keefe was the third Lion in double-figures, scoring 12 points. Miles Franklin stuffed the stat sheet with six rebounds and five steals.
Columbia got off to a fast 16-5 start just 4:01 into the game. Noland and Thompson each nailed back-to-back threes, then Franklin capped off the run with his third steal and a fast break dunk, forcing Longwood (3-3) to take a timeout. Thompson would sink two more three-pointers to give the Lions a 6-of-6 start from behind the arc six minutes in.
Columbia remained in front, but Longwood was almost just as hot in the opening half (17-29 from the field and 6-10 from three). The Lions led 53-42 at halftime.
The Lions went on a 16-1 run in the second half over a 7:25 span, highlighted by yet another Franklin steal and fast break dunk. After a hot shooting half, the Lancers went cold and shot 9-26 in the second. The Lions cruised down the stretch, leading by as many as 28 with 2:30 to go.
The Lions visit Fairfield on Wednesday at 7 p.m. from Leo D. Mahoney Arena. The game will air on ESPN+.
