The Lions earn their third wire-to-wire win of the season; Thompson and Noland each drop 20-plus points
FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Thanksgiving feast started a day early for Columbia men's basketball, as the Lions shot 62.5 percent from the field in a 106-77 victory at Fairfield from Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Wednesday night.
Columbia (6-1) cracked the 100 points mark against a Division I opponent for the first time since Nov. 15, 2010 (108 vs. Maryland Eastern Shore). Blair Thompson's second straight 20-point performance led the Lions with 23. Kenny Noland had 20, marking his fourth 20-point game of the season.
Miles Franklin added 18 points, while Gerard O'Keefe (12 points) and Ryan Soulis (10 points) rounded out Columbia's double-figure scorers. Columbia out-rebounded Fairfield, 40-30.
Holding a 6-4 lead early on, Columbia broke off an 11-0 run that included three-pointers from Franklin, Soulis, and Noland. The 13-point deficit just 4:28 into the game forced the Stags (4-3) to use a timeout. Fresh off a single-game program-best 18 threes in Sunday's win over Longwood, the Lions made their first five triples of the night.
Columbia led by 18 at the under-eight media timeout in the first half after Soulis hit his second three-pointer and O'Keefe drove the lane and laid in a basket. The Lions held Fairfield to under 30 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes and led 46-29 at the break.
Columbia blew the doors off with a 10-0 run in the second half, featuring a Connor Igoe and-one finish. The Lions led 80-53 with 10:47 to play and went on to hold a 30-point advantage in the final minute of action. Half of Columbia's points came in the paint.
The Lions host Sarah Lawrence on Saturday at 2 p.m. from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium. The game will air on ESPN+. Click here to purchase tickets.
