Sophomore infielder was the catalyst behind the Lions series victory over Yale
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia softball's sophomore infielder Payton Shimansky has been named the Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.
The Greenwood, Ind., native, was a menace at the plate last weekend, hitting .583 (7-for-12) with four runs scored and four runs driven in. She slugged .917 for the week, clubbing two doubles and a triple.
Shimansky was a big reason for the Lions first series victory over Yale since 2019. She was the perfect table setter, hitting .800 with the bases empty and came up big with runners on base hitting .429.
It is the first career weekly award for Shimansky who has started 24 games for the Lions this season and has already put career-bests in nearly every statistical category including: hits (25), runs (16), RBI (10), doubles (5), triples (1), and home runs (1).
"So proud of Payton and all the hard work she puts in to earn this Player of the Week award," head coach Jennifer Teague said. "She continues to push herself to grow her game and always puts the team first. Well deserved!"
Columbia wraps up a seven-game road trip tomorrow, traveling to West Long Branch, N.J. for a nonconference clash at Monmouth. That game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
