Men’s Basketball Falls to Harvard on Saturday

The Lions drop their first loss at home this season
NEW YORK — Columbia men's basketball suffered a 79-54 loss to Harvard on Saturday afternoon from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium.
Kenny Noland led Columbia (12-4, 1-1) with 10 points, while Connor Igoe added nine and Miles Franklin finished with eight. The Lions couldn't overcome Harvard's 52.7 percent shooting performance, including nearly 48 percent from beyond the arc. Columbia finished 2-16 from three-point range.
Harvard's early 8-0 run had the Crimson (8-8, 1-1) in front 11-2 at the first media timeout of the day. Despite Harvard going five minutes without a field goal later in the half, the Lions still trailed by nine with 7:52 until the break.
The Lions ended the half on a quick 5-0 run with Blair Thompson scoring a layup and hitting a triple. It was Columbia's lone three-pointer in the opening 20 minutes and the Lions were down 38-29 at halftime.
After Harvard opened up a 14-point lead early in the second half, Columbia brought the margin to single digits on a 6-0 run that included two buckets from Igoe. The Crimson responded with a 7-0 run to take a 15-point lead with 13:34 remaining.
Harvard led the whole way and held a game-high 26-point advantage with 2:02 to play. Thomas Bates II dropped a game-high 24 points on 8-12 shooting for the Crimson.
Columbia is back on the road for Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend. The Lions visit Brown on Saturday at 2 p.m. before heading to Yale on Monday at 2 p.m.
