Women’s Soccer Drops Ivy Opener at Brown

Lions return home to host Dartmouth Saturday night
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Columbia women's soccer opened Ivy League play Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to Brown at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Brown (7-2-1, 1-0 Ivy) opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Brooke Birtwistle scored off an assist from Joy Okonye. The Lions held the Bears off the board for the remainder of the first half, with Samantha Mahoney making three saves to keep the deficit at 1-0 entering the locker room.
The Bears extended their lead early in the second half, as Angelina Vargas scored in the 50th minute before Okonye made it 3-0 three minutes later. Brown added its final goal in the 79th minute on a strike from Anya Tansil.
Columbia (1-6-3, 0-1 Ivy) finished with six shots and six corner kicks, while Mahoney recorded six saves in goal.
The Lions return home next weekend to host Dartmouth at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday
