
Cornell Gets By Softball In The First Two Of The Weekend

NEW YORK - In the first two of four games this weekend against Cornell, the Big Red got by the Columbia softball team, 6-0, and 5-1 in a Saturday doubleheader. With the pair of losses, the Lions fall to 13-23 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
Madison Gott and Jackie Li led the way in the first game with two hits each. Columbia was unable to drive any runners in during game one, stranding two runners in the second, two more in the fifth, and three in the sixth.
Kayla Maloney led off the seventh with a double to center, but was unable to get driven in as Columbia fell, 6-0.
Tonia Wu took the loss for the Lions in the first game, giving up four runs in five innings. Maloney finished up the last two innings, and surrendered one earned run.
Tessa Kroll got the start in the second contest, and came out hot in the first three innings. The junior allowed only one hit through three, forcing five groundouts along the way.
Cornell got after Kroll in the fourth, tallying three runs on three hits to take a 3-1 lead. The Big Red added two more in the fifth, forcing Wu to come back on in the circle.
The Lions tallied only one run in the game, when Gott drove in Alix Cook on a double to left center.
Up next, Columbia will come back to the home stadium tomorrow for a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader with Cornell.
