Penn Takes Game One from Baseball 4-3

NEW YORK - Penn scored two runs in the fifth and one run in the seventh to defeat Columbia 4-3 in game one of the Gehrig Division doubleheader at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.
Columbia's starter George Thanopoulos threw six innings and gave up four runs on eight hits, striking out six, while walking just one.
Penn's game one pitcher went the distance, giving up three runs on six hits and five strikeouts.
The Quakers took the lead in the top of the first with a homerun by Austin Bossart. The Quakers kept the lead through the third when the Lions put up two runs. Nick Maguire singled to the catcher and advanced to second on Will Savage's groundout. Lane Robinette scored Maguire with an RBI single up the middle. Jordan Serena bunt singled and Robinette advanced to third. After Serena was caught stealing, Rob Paller singled to right to score Robinette and give the Lions 2-1 lead.
Penn took the lead in the top of the fifth with a two-out triple down the right field line by Matt Greskoff and a double to center by Mitch Montaldo. The Quakers added a run in the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage.
The Lions looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh when David Vandercook led off with a solo blast to right center, but the comeback fell just short.
