Women’s Soccer Defeats Rams in Cross-Borough Battle

Lions roll past Rams at RBC
NEW YORK — Four Lions struck gold in a 4-0 Columbia women's soccer victory over Fordham at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium. With the victory, Columbia improved to 3-1-1 on the season while Fordham fell to 1-6.
Shira Cohen opened scoring for the Lions in the eighth minute. While the Rams' goalkeeper Serena Mensah made a massive save on a Columbia corner kick, junior Grace Hurren was able to collect the rebound, which was then sent home by Cohen.
Three minutes later rookie Maia Tabion recorded her third goal of the season, drawing and taking her first collegiate penalty kick.
The Lions continued their unrelenting attack in the second half. Ania Prussak produced her second goal of the season, shooting a free kick through the hands of Fordham's relieving goalkeeper Maria O'Sullivan.
Senior Blake Turner tallied her first collegiate goal in the 71st minute. Classmate Ally Clark registered the assist after taking the initial shot on O'Sullivan.
Paige Nurkin earned the start in net, turning away three shots over 80 minutes. Senior Mackenzie Bryant provided 10 minutes of relief.
Under siege, Fordham's goalkeeper combined for 15 saves.
