Brown earns a 2-1 win to eliminate the Lions
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Columbia women's soccer team dropped its Ivy League Tournament semifinal game to Brown, 2-1 on Friday afternoon inside Roberts Stadium.
Brown held control of possession early on in the first half. The Bears fired two shots within the first three minutes before Columbia was able to slow down the Brown attack.
Columbia's first shot of the game also ended up being the first goal of the game as Nata Ramirez scored in the 23rd minute to give Columbia an early 1-0 lead. Ania Prussak was credited with the assist on a nice pass to help Ramirez find the net for the seventh time this season.
Columbia did well in limiting opportunities for Brown down the stretch in the first half. However, Brown capitalized on a corner kick in the closing moments of the first half to even the score heading into halftime. Gianna De Priest set up to take the corner kick and lined the ball straight inside the left goalpost in the 44th minute. The Bears outshot the Lions, 5-3 in the first 45 minutes.
Coming into the second half, Brown set up for a penalty kick in the 46th minute after video replay confirmed a Columbia handball. Lexi Quinn lined up for the penalty kick and sent it past Lauren Rodriguez in the bottom, left side of the goal to put Brown ahead, 2-1.
Brown limited the Columbia attack down the stretch to finish off a 2-1 win to advance to the Ivy League Tournament championship game. The Lions put four shots on goal in the second half, but Brown's goalkeeper Bella Schopp was able to register saves on all four shots.
Lauren Rodriguez earned the start and played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Lions as she allowed two Brown goals. Columbia finishes the 2024 season with a 7-5-4 overall record.
