Women’s Soccer Plays Host to Providence Friday Night

The Lions return home before the start of Ivy League play
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's soccer team (1-3-3) returns home to Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium Friday night to host Providence (3-3-1) for a 6 p.m. first kick.
Friday's game was originally schedule for a 7 p.m. start Friday, but was moved up to 6 p.m. earlier this week. The game will be Columbia's final non-conference test of the season before starting Ivy League play on the road at Penn on September 28.

LAST TIME OUT
Columbia split its two contests last week with a home victory over Fordham and a loss on the road to No. 12 Penn State. The Lions got the week started with a dominant 2-0 win against Fordham. Maia Tabion and Ania Prussak each found the net while the defense limited Fordham to just six shots and one shot on goal.
In a tough test Sunday, Penn State outlasted the Lions, 2-1. Nata Ramirez scored in the 83rd minute to keep Columbia's hopes alive. With just seconds remaining, Charlyse Berry took a shot that sailed just over the cross bar that allowed Penn State to escape with the win. Columbia locked down on defense in the second half to limit the Nittany Lions to just three shots. Columbia outshot Penn State, 5-3 in the second half and tallied six corner kicks.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Providence sits at 3-3-1 overall this season and is coming off a 2-0 loss to Brown last Thursday. The Friars opened the season with wins over Rhode Island and Holy Cross. Providence also owns a win against Northeastern and a 1-1 draw with FDU.
Kacey Lawrence leads the squad with three goals and three assists this season for nine total points. Kristin Middaugh is credited with two goals while Alanna Coffie, Marryn Gruhn and Stephanie Schoeley each have scored one goal. Emma Bodmer has earned seven starts as the goalkeeper and has 18 total saves with a 3-2 record.

Columbia owns a 1-0 record in the series against Providence. Last year's 1-0 victory at Providence was the first meeting between the two programs.
