The Lions go for a second straight home win
NEW YORK — Columbia men's basketball clashes with Boston University for the first time since 2002 on Tuesday at 7 p.m. from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium.
Opening Tip-Off
Tuesday's contest with the Terriers is the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams. Columbia leads the series, 2-1, and dropped the most recent tilt back on Nov. 23, 2002, in Boston.
With Thursday's win over UMass Lowell, Columbia improved to 86-37 all-time in home openers and has now won 11 of its last 18 openers in Levien Gymnasium.
Columbia welcomes back former head coach Joe Jones, who served at the helm of the Lions from 2003-10. Jones is in his 15th season as the head coach of Boston University.
Last Time Out
Columbia bounced back with a comeback win over UMass Lowell on Thursday in its home opener, 86-72. The Lions had four players score in double digits and two set career-highs. Kenny Noland led the way with a career-high 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 (.500) from behind the arc. He was also 6-6 from the free throw line. Mason Ritter set career-highs with 14 points and nine rebounds to go with two blocks.
Zine Eddine Bedri recorded 19 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Gerard O'Keefe was the fourth Lion in double figures, scoring 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting and dishing out a personal-best four assists. Columbia erased a nine-point first-half deficit.
Breaking The Glass
The Lions out-rebounded UMass Lowell on Thursday, 48-25. The plus-23 advantage was Columbia's largest rebounding margin against a Division I opponent since Nov. 15, 2010, vs. Maryland Eastern Shore, when the Lions were 44-21 on the boards against the Hawks.
The 48 rebounds are the most boards in a game for Columbia against a Division I foe since Dec. 12, 2022 (at Lafayette). Columbia also had 23 offensive rebounds, marking the first time the Lions secured over 20 offensive boards since Jan. 16, 2023 vs. Cornell.
How Many Miles Can He Go?
First-year guard Miles Franklin shined in his collegiate debut in the Nov. 7 season opener. The Vienna, Virginia native came off the bench and in 18 minutes of action tallied 13 points on 5-5 shooting from the floor. Franklin knocked down two three-pointers and recorded three rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
Franklin followed up last Monday at No. 3 UConn with a 10-point showing (eight in the second half) on 5-8 shooting. His performance included a posterizing dunk over Silas Demary Jr. with 8:42 remaining in the game. He was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Franklin made his first career start in Thursday's home opener and logged 18 minutes.
