PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia softball took two of the three the Ivy League's weekly awards with
Cami Neal being named Player of the Week while first-year starting pitcher
Emmy Davis was named Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Neal was the catalyst for the Lions 3-1 week, which included a road series win over Princeton. For the week, Neal hit .455 (5-for-11) with a run scored and two RBIs. Against the Tigers, Neal boasted a slash line of .556/.667/.600.
The native of Gilbert, Ariz., is hitting .380 on the year with nine doubles, four home runs and 28 RBI. The .380 average is sixth in the Ivy League, while her 28 RBIs is tied for fifth. It is the third Player of the Week honor for Neal.
Davis takes home her first career weekly Ivy League honor after tossing a gem in the Lions win over Princeton in game one on Saturday.
The native of Ventura, Calif., tossed five scoreless innings, earning her sixth win of the season. Princeton entered Saturday's contest with just one loss in conference play and had yet to lose a series. That changed when Davis tossed five strong innings, holding the Tigers to just five base runners on four hits and a walk.
When base runners did reach she was effective at limiting the damage, holding the Tigers to one hit in nine at bats with runners on.
"I couldn't be more proud of Cami and Emmy," head coach
Jennifer Teague said. "Their continued trust in the process and belief in what they bring to the field is inspiring. They would be the first to credit their teammates for these honors, and that speaks volumes about their character and leadership."
This weekend, the Lions begin a season-long six game homestand starting with a three-game series against Cornell. The series begins with a doubleheader Saturday with game one scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
