LAST TIME OUT
For the second consecutive week, Columbia erased a 2-0 deficit to earn a thrilling 3-2 victory, this time against Yale last Saturday in New Haven.
After the Bulldogs scored twice in the opening 25 minutes, Beltran sparked the comeback with a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. The senior captain struck again in the 74th minute, curling a corner kick toward goal that deflected off the Yale goalkeeper and narrowly crossed the line before being cleared away. Following a VAR review, the equalizer was confirmed.
With just 2:43 remaining in regulation, Gabby Chan completed the comeback with the game-winning goal off assists from Beltran and Angel Akanyirige. Beltran finished with two goals and an assist for a five-point performance, while Katrina Chorzepa made two second-half saves to earn the victory.
The win marked Columbia's fourth consecutive Ivy League victory and second straight 3-2 comeback after overcoming a two-goal deficit at Penn the previous weekend.
WHAT'S AT STAKE?
With Columbia entering Saturday atop the Ivy League standings, the Lions have an opportunity to secure both a conference championship and a berth in the Ivy League Tournament. While numerous clinching scenarios remain in play, the following are the most significant heading into the weekend.
Outright Ivy League Championship: Columbia can clinch the Ivy League title outright with a victory over Princeton, combined with a tie or loss by each of Brown, Harvard and Dartmouth.
Share of Ivy League Championship: Columbia can clinch at least a share of the Ivy League title with a victory over Princeton and a Brown tie or loss.
Ivy League Tournament Berth: Columbia can clinch a spot in the Ivy League Tournament with a victory over Princeton. The Lions can also secure a tournament berth with a tie against Princeton, provided Brown ties or loses to Cornell.
With the regular season winding down, Saturday presents a major opportunity for the Lions to take another step toward postseason success.
