Senior slugged four home runs, three in one game, in the Cornell series.
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia softball senior Sarah Mikami has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Mikami led the Lions to a crucial road series victory over Cornell over the weekend.
The native of Irvine, Calif., was on fire against the Big Red, slashing .636/1.818/.667. For the series, she went 7-for-11 with six runs scored and nine driven in. Of her seven hits, five went for extra bases - including four that left the yard.
On Friday, Mikami's big week started with her going 1-for-4 with a home run, helping the Lions capture the series opener 5-1. In game two, she almost single-handedly delivered the Lions a win, going 3-for-4 with three home runs, three runs scored, and nine driven in. The
The three home runs tied an Ivy League record for home runs in a single game. She became the eighth player in conference history to hit three home runs in a game, the last being Harvard's Sophia Sun against Cornell on April 27, 2024.
She capped off the series, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and two driven in as the Lions defeated the Big Red 13-2 in the series-clinching finale. Mikami was clutch all weekend, hitting .857 (6-for-7) with runners on base and .800 (4-for-5) with runners in scoring position.
The four home runs by the Lions' co-captain give her seven on the year and 19 for her career. She is now tied for fifth all-time in Columbia history with former teammate Cami Neal (2022-25).
"We are incredibly happy for Sarah and all of the effort she continues to invest in herself and her teammates," head coach Jennifer Teague said. "Watching her thrive in these final weeks of her career has been a true pleasure."
This is the second career Ivy League Player of the Week award for Mikami. She last earned it on February 24, 2025. She is the third Lion this season to earn an Ivy League weekly award. Eleni Katsivalis was named Player of the Week on March 2 of this year. First-year pitcher Mads Lawson earned back-to-back Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors on April 6 and 13.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, April 25, when they travel to Philadelphia for a three-game series at Penn. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m first pitch.
