In game one, Monmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a three-run third inning.
Columbia crawled back into the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, however. With one out, Keli Leong singled to center and Valerie Smith reached on a walk after an 11-pitch battle. Ciji Rich placed a nicely-executed sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position and Kacy Krisman's single fell just within the left field line to plate both runners and bring Columbia within one run.
However, the Hawks came right back with three runs in their half of fifth to make it 6-2 and added a single run in the seventh to account for the final score.
Jackie Adelfio started the second game and was dominant, allowing just three hits over seven innings to pick up her eighth victory of the season.
Monmouth did get on the board first, scratching out a run on an RBI single from Alyssa Slattery in the top of the second inning.
As they have done many times this season, the Lions came right back in their half of the inning with a run of their own to tie the score. Kacy Krisman connected for her third home run of the season, a towering drive over the left-center field fence, to make it 1-1.
The Lions took the lead for good in the third inning, as Maiya Chard-Yaron laced a double down the left-field line to lead off and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Chard-Yaron then came home on a bunt single from Keli Leong, who was thrown out at second trying to advance after no one originally had covered the base.
After the second inning, Adelfio allowed just a one-out double in the fourth. Columbia added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Lacie Nelson hit a sharp single up the middle to score Ciji Rich, who had singled earlier in the inning.
Columbia (11-13) returns to action on Tuesday, March 28 when the Lions will travel to Jersey City, N.J. to take on St. Peter's in a doubleheader. The first game is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
