Columbia stormed out of the gate in game one, putting three runs on the board in the top of the first inning.
Maiya Chard-Yaron led off with a single up the middle and after Valerie Smith walked with two out, Ciji Rich laced a single to left to score Chard-Yaron. Kacy Krisman followed with a single of her own to score Smith. Lacie Nelson kept the hit parade going with another single to left field to bring home Rich, and Columbia was ahead to stay before St. Peter's could reach the plate.
Keli Leong picked up her team-leading 17th RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly to center in the sixth, scoring Kim Krisman, who reached on an error to lead off the inning.
Adelfio (9-6) scattered five hits on the day, allowing St. Peter's its only run in the bottom of the seventh as she picked up her second straight victory. With the win, Adelfio holds the all-time Columbia record in wins with 45.
In game two, it was St. Peter's that scored first, in the bottom of the first. But after that, starter Maiya Chard-Yaron held St. Peter's scoreless the rest of the way and hitless until the fifth.
It was the fifth inning when the Lions broke through. Kim Krisman singled with one out and ultimately advanced to third on a sacrifice by Chard-Yaron. Lexie Costic then used her speed to beat out an infield single to score Krisman and the game was tied.
St. Peter's did load the bases in the sixth with one out, but Chard-Yaron struck out Chrissy Gannon and got Melissa Andrews on a fly ball to center to escape the jam.
The Peahens had another chance in what proved to be the final inning, putting runners on second and third with one out, but Chard-Yaron cut down the potential winning run at the plate for the second out, and retired the final batter on a grounder to third to end the game.
Now 12-13-1, Columbia will return to action on Thursday, March 30 when the Lions will host Rider in a doubleheader at Columbia Softball Stadium. The first game is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
