
Softball Splits at FAU Invitational

Box Score vs. Maryland | Box Score vs. Stony Brook
BOCA RATON, Fla. - After dropping a 7-2 contest to Stony Brook, the Columbia softball team rebounded to knock off Maryland, 4-2, at the FAU Invitational. With the split, the Lions are now 2-2 on the season.
Game 1 vs. Stony Brook
The Seawolves got off to a fast start in game one, knocking in two runs in the top of the first. After Stony Brook added three more in the fourth, the Lions got one back in the fifth when Maura Lynch singled up the middle to drive in Jordan Townsend.
Stony Brook added one run in the sixth and another in the top of the seventh to hold a 7-1 lead into Columbia's final at-bat. Taylor Troutt came around on a Kerry Cook fielder's choice in the inning, but the Lions could only add one run before falling 7-2.
Tessa Kroll took the loss in the contest, giving up five runs in four innings. Kayla Maloney finished out the game in the circle, giving up three runs in the final three frames.
Troutt led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Game 2 vs. Maryland
The second contest got off to a hot start, when the Lions scored four runs in the first three innings.
Troutt stayed hot at the plate, knocking a solo shot to center to give Columbia a 1-0 lead in the second.
The Lions had a big third inning, tallying three runs on two hits. Reilly Metzger got it started with a single to left before she stole second. With the bases loaded, Townsend knocked in Troutt, Alex Yule, and Metzger on a bases-clearing double, giving the Lions a 4-0 lead.
Tonia Wu held strong in the circle, surrendering just two runs in 5.1 innings, while striking out three. Maloney came in to finish the game, earning the save over the final 1.2 innings.
Tomorrow, Columbia will finish play in the FAU Invitational with a 9 am contest against Michigan State.
