Lacrosse Earns First Program Win Over Dartmouth In Ivy League Opener

NEW YORK - The Columbia lacrosse team made program history on Sunday, March 5 at Robert K. Kraft Field as they earned its first ever win over Dartmouth 17-10 in the Lions Ivy League opener. Columbia is off to its best start since 2009 with the victory to improve to 3-1 overall.
The Columbia offense was sensational, including a game-high five goals by Laine Parsons who notched a hat trick in the first half along with Lindsey Ewertesen to power an 8-6 halftime lead. Using speed as a relentless force, Ewertsen scored all four of her goals in the opening period while also tallying five groundballs and a game-high three caused turnovers. Taylor Quinn fired in her 10th goal of the season in the first half and she would heat up from there.
Quinn opened the second half with back-to-back scores for the Lions to ignite an 8-0 run by Columbia through 20 minutes of play. Victoria Kalamaras found Quinn on her third goal of the game at 25:42 for her third assist of the afternoon. She followed with another assist to Caroline Joy at 24:20, and after a fourth goal by Parsons off the free postion at 23:17 and Kalamaras goal from Ewertsen at 21:39, Kalamaras tallied her fifth assist as she connected with Quinn again on her fourth goal.
Kalamaras added to the lead with the free-position score at 19:22 and on Parson's fifth goal at 10:30 the Lions had its biggest lead at 16-6. Dartmouth ended a 30-minute scoring drought at 9:32. A strong goal by Sara Ruzzi at 5:13 capped the Lions scoring barrage on the day and three goals in the final four minutes of play by the Big Green would not be enough.
Led by 10 saves from Kelsey Gedin in goal, the Lions defense was stifiling. Columbia caused 14 Dartmouth turnovers and held them scoreless for 60% of the second half.
With the 17-10 home victory, Columbia(3-1, 1-0 Ivy) are 2-0 at Robert K. Kraft Field and will return on Saturday, March 11 at 1 p.m. to host #15/16 Cornell.
