Lions Travel to Rider for Sunday Matchup

Columbia women's soccer will head to Lawrenceville, New Jersey, on Sunday to take on Rider at 1 p.m. ET
NEW YORK — Following its first victory of the season on Thursday night at Fordham, the Columbia women's soccer team will continue its two-game road stretch, traveling to face Rider on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Columbia enters Sunday's contest at 1-1-1 having played two of its first three games on the road. The Lions started off the 2019 campaign last Thursday at Colgate, finishing in a 2-2 draw before dropping their home-opener to No. 11 Tennessee last Sunday.
Against Fordham, Columbia used a trio of second-half goals to earn a 3-1 victory over the Rams. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Schildkraut got the scoring started, while sophomore forward Mallaika Tomar and junior midfielder Cayla Davis helped solidify the victory with goals of their own.
First-year goalkeeper Liz Matei has played all 290 minutes in goal for the Lions thus far, recording 17 saves and a .739 save percentage. Fellow first-year players Shira Cohen, Ally Clark and Maddy McCaw have also earned starts in Columbia's first three games, accounting for a combined four points.
SCOUTING RIDER
The Broncs have started off their season with a 2-1-1 overall record. After winning back-to-back matches against Wagner and St. Francis Brooklyn to open the campaign, Rider saw a scoreless draw at Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 1 before falling, 5-0, at NJIT in their most recent contest on Thursday.
First-year forward Hailey Russel leads the scoring charge for the Broncs so far this season with five points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore forward Nikki Arrington has also scored a pair of goals on the season. Junior keeper Carmen Carbonell has played every minute in goal, having kept two clean sheets with 17 saves.
Rider owns a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series between the two programs. Last season, Rider visited Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium and earned a 2-1 victory. It was the first time the teams had met since 2012, where Columbia claimed a 3-2 home triumph.

The Lions return home on Thursday, Sept. 12, welcoming Saint Joseph's to Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. start on ESPN+.
