Columbia closes its non-conference slate in 6-0 victory over visiting Adelphi.

NEW YORK -- The Columbia women's soccer team (7-4-1) closed its non-conference slate with the program's largest margin of victory since 2017 in a 6-0 win over Adelphi Tuesday night at Rocco B. Commisso Stadium.

Four different scorers found the back of the net as five Lions earned their first career points and 24 saw game action.

"This was a great opportunity to showcase the depth of our program and the overall work we've been doing. For us to have many opportunities to finish is exciting for everyone," said Head Coach Tracey Bartholomew. "The energy and the effort was there for every single player on both the sideline and the field. We're really proud of how they came out and chased every moment."

Junior captain Ally Clark opened scoring with a strike in the seventh minute, collecting a loose ball in front of the goal and launching her shot beyond the outstretched hand of Adelphi keeper Sarah Hofmeier.

With just under two minutes to play in the first half, Mia Ferrentino headed a corner kick feed from Kendall McBride into the upper shelf for the Lions' insurance goal. Both the goal and assist were career firsts for sophomores Ferrentino and McBride who lost their freshman seasons to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the 50th minute, Nata Ramirez cushioned her spot atop Columbia's scoring leaders with her sixth goal of the season. Claire Pinnie provided the assist as Ramirez worked through a trio of Adelphi defenders before finding the back of the net.

Lightning struck twice when McBride dished out her second assist of both the contest and her career to Clark in the 57th minute.

Mallaika Tomar picked up her first points of the season off passes from Blake Turner and Annie Diaz-Silveira to put the Lions up 5-0. Turner and Diaz-Silveira's assists were also career firsts.

Moments later Ferrentino added her second goal of the game, and her career, off freshman Stephanie Jung's first career assist.

"This season has been so long anticipated. We're making up for lost time. We won't get those games back, but we can make the most of this season," reflected Ferrentino after the game. "I started the season as an outside back and have transitioned to a center mid. I've really been working on my header goals so I was happy to score one off a corner and make a positive impact on the team.

Goalkeepers Paige Nurkin, Audrey Byrne, and Lauren Rodriguez shared time in goal with Byrne being the only keeper forced to make a save, doing so deep in the second half.

The Lions will resume conference play on Saturday, October 16 at Princeton. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 P.M.
