Lacrosse Announces Silver Anniversary Team

In honor of the 25th Anniversary of Columbia lacrosse, members of the public voted on the 13 best players in program history.

NEW YORK — Following a month-long public vote, Columbia lacrosse is proud to announce the 13 members of its 2022 Silver Anniversary team. The group is comprised of two goalkeepers, four defenders, three midfielders, and four attackers.

Goalkeeper Kelsey Gedin leads the Silver Anniversary team with the largest earned vote percentage of all candidates (88%). Gedin concluded an illustrious career as a four-year starter, tying the all-time program record for career saves (532) while ranking fourth in single-season saves (154, 2017). The 2018 Ivy League Honorable Mention earned All-League Tournament Team Honors (2018) after leading the Lions to their first ever Ivy League tournament match.

As a rookie in 2015, Gedin led the conference in saves per game (9.13) en route to earning All-Ivy Second Team accolades. Academically, the Kinsale, Virginia native was named to the 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll.  Gedin is joined in goal by fellow all-time career program record holder Marcela Calidonio. The 2005 All-Ivy Honorable Mention recorded 532 career saves and ranks second in single-season saves (158, 2005).

Defending the Silver Anniversary squad are Alyssa Adamo, Kathryn Cavallo, Lexi Mazur,  and Amanda Goodhart Popeck.  A two-year team captain,  Adamo collected 49 ground balls and caused 34 turnovers in a COVID-shortened career. In 2019, she earned All-Ivy League Honorable Mention recognition.

Adamo played two seasons with fellow Silver Anniversary teammate Kathryn Cavallo.  A 2018 Second Team All-Ivy Honoree, Cavallo collected 90 ground balls and caused 39 turnovers as a three-year starter. In 2017, Cavallo joined Gedin on the IWLCA Zag Sports Division I Academic Honor Roll.

A four-year fixture of Columbia's starting lineup, Lexi Mazur earned the start in all 58 games the Lions played from 2013-2016. In both 2014 and 2015 Mazur's defensive unit held opponents to the second fewest goals in program history (150), headlined by the Lions' lone shutout (2014).  The Media, Pa. native recorded double digit ground balls all four years, accumulating 86 over the course of her career.

Another four-year starter, Amanda Goodhart Popeck led the Lions in caused turnovers in 2009 (Columbia's winningest team), 2010, and 2012. In her final season (2012) she recorded 28 caused turnovers, a then-program record (today, seventh). She remains the highest ranking defender in career caused turnovers (5th), with 74 to her credit. Goodhart was named to the All-Ivy Second Team in 2012 after earning Honorable Mention accolades in 2010.

The 2018 Ivy League Midfielder of the Year, Lindsey Ewertsen, headlines the midfield line. A four-year starter, Ewertsen began her storied career as the program's first, and only, rookie to earn First Team All-Ivy League honors. That same year, she was the first Lion named to the IWCLA All-Rookie Team.

A unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection as a senior (2019), Ewertsen holds program records in career draw controls (212) and caused turnovers (212) while setting season-best marks in caused turnovers (45, 2019). She sits in a three-way tie with Holly Glynn and Victoria Kalamaras for most single-game assists (6, 3/16/19 UConn) while owning the record for single-game draw controls (15, 4/28/18 Princeton).

While representing the Lions Ewertsen earned three First Team All-Ivy selections (2016, 2018, 2019) and one Second Team All-Ivy nod (2017); she was named to two  IWLCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Teams (2018 & 2019) while leading the Lions as a two-year captain (2018 & 2019).  Academically, the Montclair, N.J. native was Columbia's Academic All-Ivy League representative twice (2018 & 2019).

Taylor Quinn and Marisa Marcellino round of the team's midfielders. A four-year starter and All-Ivy recipient, Quinn holds the Columbia record for career ground balls (185) while sitting second in career draw controls (194). She boasts the single season ground ball record (56, 2017) and is the single season goal scoring runner-up (47, 2017). Additionally, she ranks fourth through sixth in single season draw controls (53-2017;52-2014;51-2015).

She was a 2017 First Team All-Ivy selection after earning three consecutive Second Team nods (2014-2016). Meanwhile Marcellino holds the single game record in points (11, 3/14/08 La Salle) after formally holding the school record in single season assists (18, 2005). She now ranks fifth following two 25-assist seasons in 2006 and 2007. Marcellino was a four-year starter and two-year captain.

The youngest athlete earning a spot on the Silver Anniversary Team is 2021 graduate, Alexandria Absey. As an attacker, Absey led Columbia in goals as both a freshman and sophomore (2018 & 2019); collecting All-Ivy Honorable Mention accolades in the process. Though Columbia did not compete due to the pandemic her senior season, she recorded a whopping 84 points in 36 appearances.

Former teammate Victoria Kalamaras was the first Columbian to produce 20+ goals and 20+ assists in. three consecutive seasons. A three-time All-Ivy athlete (First Team, 2018; Second Team 2016 & 2017), Kalamaras is the program record holder in career (106) and single season assists (42, 2017). The 2018 team captain sits in a three way-tie for the program's most single-game assists (6, 3/25/18 Harvard).

From 2009-2013, Kacie Johnson set the Lions' program record for career goals (169) and points (249). In amassing 249 points, Johnson set the single season record for both goals (52, 2013) and total points (72, 2012, second, 68, 2013) while ranking second in single season assists (32, 2012). She was named First Team All-Ivy in 2012 and 2013 after collecting Second Team recognition in 2011. In 2012, she represented the Lions on the Academic All-Ivy Team.

Last, but not least, Holly Glynn rounds of the 25th Anniversary Team. A four-year starter, Glynn was named Second Team All-Ivy in 2008 and 2009. Columbia's 2009 team remains the program's winning-est (nine wins). After arriving in Morningside Heights from Waltham, Mass., ranks second in career goals (134) and points (186); third in single season goals (45, 2009); and remains in a three-way tie for single game goals (7, 3/28/08) and assists (6, 4/27/06).
