Sheets And Schott Win Ivy League Pitcher And Player Of The Week

For the first time since 2014, a pair of Columbia Baseball Lions have been named the Ivy League Pitcher and Player of the Week for the same week.

PRINCETON, N.J. — Following Columbia Baseball's weekend sweep of Harvard, both Joe Sheets and Hayden Schott earned Weekly Ivy League honors, with Sheets earning Pitcher of the Week honors and Schott being named Player of the Week as announced by the Ivy League on Monday, April 18.

Both Sheets and Schott put together big performances for the Lions helping to extend Columbia's winning streak to 11 straight and nine straight against the Ivy League.  Sheets was the starter and winning pitcher for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, and Schott's bat played a key role in all three games putting top performances together batting in the heart of the Columbia lineup.

Schott batted .615 with three home runs and he knocked in nine RBIs over the weekend.  He also added a pair of doubles, slugged 1.462 percent and had an on-base percentage of .615.  He also made a few solid plays in the field, during a weekend where the wind was swirling all at Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.

In the opening game, Schott went 3-for-5 with a home run and a game-high five RBIs.  Schott followed that up with a pair of home runs in the second game, going 3-for-4, scoring two runs and knocking in three runs.  The Columbia center fielder wrapped up the weekend by going 2-for-4 with one RBI and one double.

Sheets' great start came in the second game, and the first-year right handed pitcher put together the longest starting performance by a Lion starter since 2019 with a scoreless seven innings of work.  In control all game long, Sheets struck out seven Harvard batters and gave up just six hits while walking just one.  Schott becomes the second Lion to win Player of the Week, following Austin Mowrey winning the award on April 4.  Sheets is the first Lion to earn Pitcher of the Week since Josh Simpson got the nod on Mar. 25, 2019.

For the Lions, this is the first time since 2017 that a pair of Lions won Ivy League awards and the first time since 2014 that both the Ivy League Player and Pitcher of the Week were Lions.
