Kreutzmann Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

Columbia Baseball's EJ Kreutzmann becomes the second Lion to be named Ivy League Rookie of the Week during the 2022 season.

PRINCETON, N.J. — After hitting .538 over Columbia Baseball's past four games, including hitting .556 against Yale over Columbia's weekend sweep of the Bulldogs, Columbia sophomore EJ Kreutzmann has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the week of April 25 as announced today, Monday, April 25 by the Ivy League.

Kreutzmann went 7-for-13 over the four games, hitting one home run and knocking in four runs.  He was also perfect in the field and swiped a pair of bases on two attempts.  He slugged .769 and collected 10 total bases and his .571 on-base percentage was the second best on the team over the four games, which included Columbia's midweek win over Marist on Apr. 20.

During the weekend, in Columbia's domination of Yale for yet another Ivy League weekend sweep, Kreutzmann went 5-for-9 with a home run and three RBIs.  He started two of the three games and snagged a base on his one attempt at a steal.

In Columbia's opener against Yale, a 5-4 comeback win, he went 3-for-4 and his second inning RBI single to left got Columbia on the board ahead of its comeback.  Kreutzmann snagged a base in the second inning as well and drew one walk, reaching base four times in the game and in the seventh, his leadoff single got Columbia's comeback off and running.

During the second game, Kreutzmann went 1-for-4 and scored a run in Columbia's 11-2 win to sweep the doubleheader.  In Sunday's game Kreutzmann came off the bench for one pinch hitting appearance and he delivered, smashing an absolute bomb to right field, scoring two on the blast to pad Columbia's eventual 16-4 win.

Against Marist, Kreutzmann went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI to help power the Lions offense in their 15-run output.

Kreutzmann becomes the second Lion this year to win Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors, joining Anton Lazits, who earned the honor during the week of Apr. 11.  This is also the first time since 2017 that Columbia has had at least two Lions named Ivy League Rookie of the Week in the same season.
