Billy Black Named Ivy League Pitcher Of The Week

Its the second Columbia Baseball pitcher to earn Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors.

PRINCETON, N.J. — Giving up zero runs over four and two third innings and collecting a save against Cornell, Columbia Baseball graduate senior Billy Black has been named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week, adding 10 strikeouts over a pair of appearances, as part of the Ivy League's weekly honors.

The week began for Black by helping finish off Columbia's program record setting 16th consecutive victory, recording the final six outs giving up just one hit and three strikeouts in Columbia midweek win over Army on Wednesday, Apr. 27.  Black returned to the bump to finish off Cornell in the second game of Columbia's Ivy League doubleheader sweep.

Black came out of the pen to relive JD Ogden in the seventh and he went on to give up zero runs and only two hits over the final two and two thirds of work.  Impressively he struck out seven Cornell batters, including striking out the side to end the game in the ninth to earn his first save since 2018.

Black becomes the second Lion this year to earn Pitcher of the Week honors, joining Joe Sheets who won on Apr. 18.  This is also the first time since 2014 that two Lions earned Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season.
