Columbia remains in first place in the Ivy League standings

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Columbia women's soccer team stormed back from a two-goal deficit by scoring three goals in the final 26 minutes to earn a 3-2 victory over Yale on Saturday afternoon inside Reese Stadium.

Columbia (7-3-4, 5-0-1 Ivy) remains unbeaten in Ivy League play and retains its spot atop the Ivy League standings with the win over Yale (8-6-1, 2-3-1 Ivy) Saturday. Princeton posted a win against Dartmouth Saturday to remain within one point of the Lions heading into the final conference game of the regular season next weekend. Columbia and Princeton will meet next Saturday at 2 p.m. to determine an Ivy League champion. Hosting rights for the Ivy League Tournament are also on the line as the top seed will host the tournament.

Yale's Karoline Hernes scored in the 39^th minute to put the Bulldogs in front heading into halftime. Coming out of the break, Yale extended its lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute when Alanna Butcher found the net.

Yale held the Lions to zero shots through the first 45 minutes before Columbia found its rhythm in the second half. Columbia outshot Yale, 7-2 in the second half and put four shots on goal.

Maia Tabion scored the first Columbia goal in the 64^th minute with assists from Nata Ramirez and Marcia Ojo. Ramirez and Ojo made quick passes and found Tabion at the top of the box. Tabion took the ball and got set quickly before booting the ball through the bottom right side of the goal to put the Lions on the scoreboard.

Columbia struck again on a Sam Cohn header goal in the 71^st minute to even the score, 2-2. Dema Elder launched a free kick from the sideline in near the net that found the head of Cohn. The ball bounced off Cohn's head and found its way past the Yale goalkeeper to completely shift the momentum in Columbia's favor.

On the hunt for a win to stay at first place in the Ivy League standings, Tabion stepped up for an amazing goal in the in the 83^rd minute that proved to be the game winner. Angel Akanyirige earned the assist by passing the ball off to Tabion near the middle of the box. Tabion turned around while taking the pass and took a perfect shot that went through the top part of the net.

Tabion led the Lions with two shots, both being goals. Ojo, Sophia Cavaliere, Cohn and Ramirez all registered a shot in the win.

Lauren Rodriguez played all 90 minutes in the net and allowed two Yale goals. Rodriguez earned one save to help the Lions come from behind and win.

UP NEXT
The Lions host Princeton next Saturday, November 2 in a game to determine the Ivy League champion. Columbia will also recognize its seniors prior to the 2 p.m. first kick at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.
