Men’s Basketball Dominates UAlbany For Eighth Straight Win, 93-65

Gerard O’Keefe led the way with 24 points
NEW YORK — Columbia men's basketball controlled the second half to pick up its eighth consecutive win, 93-65, against UAlbany on Saturday evening from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium.
Columbia (9-1) is now 6-0 at home and concluded a three-game homestand with its resounding defeat of the Great Danes (3-7). After being neck-and-neck with UAlbany in the first half, the Lions outscored their opponent 57-31 in the final 20 minutes. The Great Danes converted on just three of 24 attempts from beyond the arc on the night.
Gerard O'Keefe led the Lions in scoring with a season-high 24 points in yet another hot shooting night, knocking down 9-of-12 field goals and going 6-of-9 from three. Kenny Noland posted 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Connor Igoe scored 13 points on perfect 4-of-4 shooting. Blair Thompson scored 9 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Coming out of the first media timeout, the Lions were down 7-4 to the Great Danes. Igoe threw an overhead pass to O'Keefe for an easy shot, then came back on the next play to take the Lions' first lead with a jumper of his own.
UAlbany briefly got back in front, but Columbia took another lead at 18-17 with 10:24 left in the oopening half after O'Keefe broke down his defender and hit a clean spin jumper. The Lions embarked on a 13-0 run and took a nine-point lead as the Great Danes went over six minutes without a bucket.
UAlbany knocked down six consecutive shots to tie the game at 30-30 with 1:57 left in the first half as the Lions faced their own dry spell. Columbia would head into halftime up 36-34.
It was a tale of two halves. The Lions opened the second with an 8-0 run, and they spent the rest of the night on cruise control.
With 6:41 left, Mason Ritter threw down a lob sent up by Noland, giving the Lions a 70-49 lead. Columbia's largest lead of the night came up 29 with 2:29 remaining.
Columbia travels to Stony Brook on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before a 12-day break. The game will air live on FloSports and SNY.
