Columbia Softball Hosts Cornell to Begin Six Game Homestand

The Lions will celebrate Pride Day on Sunday
NEW YORK – The Columbia softball team is once again ready to battle the elements as the spring continues to send rain the Lions way. Columbia and Cornell are still on for a double header Saturday with game one at 12:30 p.m. and game two following at 3 p.m. Sunday is slated for a 12:30 p.m. first pitch.
This weekend's games between the Lions (17-16, 9-6 Ivy) and Big Red (16-16, 6-9 Ivy) can be watched live on ESPN+ or followed via live stats.

LAST TIME OUT
The Lions got a big road series win last weekend, taking the final two games of a three-game set at Princeton. Columbia took game one on Saturday 2-0 before pitching their way to a 3-1 win in the nightcap. The Tigers entered the game without a series loss on the season. Columbia got a pair of brilliant pitching performances from starters Emmy Davis and Jordan Hill. Senior infielder Cami Neal came up clutch in both games.
STAT LEADERS
Neal is one of four Lions hitting north of .300 this season, her .380 average is fifth in the Ivy League. Her 28 RBI also tops the team. Sarah Mikami and Neal share the team lead with four home runs apiece.
In the circle, Davis leads the team with a 4.46 ERA. Davis and Hill share the team lead at six wins each. Hill tops the squad with five complete games.
PLAYER/ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Earlier this week, the Lions captured two of the three weekly awards presented by the Ivy League. Neal earned her third career Player of the Week award after hitting .455 last week. Against the Tigers she boasted a blistering slash line of .556/.667/.600 with a run scored and two RBIs. Davis was named the Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career. She tossed a gem in the game two win over the Tigers, throwing five scoreless innings to earn her sixth win of the season.
PRIDE DAY
Softball will celebrate Pride Day on Sunday. This will be the team's third annual Pride Game, which celebrates the University's and surrounding community's LGBTQ+ community. Pride bracelets will be available for fans until they run out.
SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red enter this week with a 16-16 overall record after splitting a midweek contest against Binghamton. This season, Cornell is 2-4 on the road and 6-9 in conference play. As a team, the Big Red are hitting .308 with seven players hitting north of .300. Leading the team is Ella Harrod at .364. Lauren Holt is the big bat in the middle of the lineup; she leads the team with nine home runs and 28 RBIs.
In the circle, the Big Red sport a staff ERA of 5.06. Kyrie Denny leads the team in wins (8) and ERA (3.90).
THE SERIES
Saturday will be the 74th meeting between these two teams. In a series that dates back to 2001, the Big Red has a 41-32 advantage in the series. Recent history has seen the series swing back into the Lions' favor, having won 12 of the last 15 contests. Last season, the Lions took the series in Ithaca winning the final two games of the series.
